Unser heutiges “Objekt des Tages” ist eine Kopie von einem der zwei Läufer, einer Skulpturengruppe, die im 18. Jahrhundert in Herculaneum, entdeckt wurde. Die Läufer stammen aus dem 1 Jahrhundert v. Chr. und standen in der “Villa dei Papiri”, die für ihre beeindruckenden Skulpturen und eine bedeutende Bibliothek mit antiken Schriftrollen bekannt war. Die Skulpturen sind derzeit im Archäologischen Nationalmuseum in Neapel ausgestellt.

The runner

Our today’s “Object of the Day” is a copy of one of the two runners, a sculptural group discovered in the 18th century in Herculaneum. The runners date back to the 1st century BC and were located in the “Villa dei Papiri”, which was known for its impressive sculptures and an important library of ancient scrolls. The sculptures are currently on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples.
