Wedgwood Etruscan style vase
Ceramic

For the painting of this vase a very rare technique was used – encaustic painting. In this technique, clay vases were covered with melted beeswax, on which color pigments were then applied. After the colors were applied, the vases were heated to melt the wax and permanently burn the colors into the clay. This method gave the vases a special durability and brilliance of colors.
