Die hier präsentierte ornamentale Wandmalerei gehören zum dritten der vier Stile römischer Wandmalereien, dem Ornamentalen Stil, bei der sie hauptsächlich aus komplexen geometrischen und floralen Verzierungen bestehen und einem Raum den Eindruck von Tiefe und Größe verleihen. Mythologische oder figürliche Darstellungen treten dabei eher in den Hintergrund. Der Ornamentale Stil war besonders in der frühen römischen Kaiserzeit beliebt und wurde hauptsächlich in Häusern wohlhabender Bewohner in Pompeji gefunden.

Newly discovered wall painting in Pompeii

The ornamental wall painting presented here belong to the third of the four styles of Roman wall paintings, the Ornamental style, in which they consist mainly of complex geometric and floral decorations and give a room the impression of depth and grandeur. Mythological or figurative representations tend to take a back seat. The Ornamental style was especially popular in the early Roman Imperial period and was found mainly in homes of wealthy residents in Pompeii.
