Ein Akroterion ist ein dekoratives Element, das oft auf den Ecken oder Spitzen von antiken Tempeln und Gebäuden platziert wurde. Es kann die Form von Skulpturen, Blumen oder anderen Ornamenten haben und dient dazu, das Dach oder den Giebel zu verschönern. Ursprünglich aus dem antiken Griechenland, haben Akroterien auch Dächer von Pompeji verschönert.

An acroterion is a decorative element that was often placed on the corners or tops of ancient temples and buildings. It can take the form of sculptures, flowers or other ornaments and is used to embellish the roof or gable. Originally from ancient Greece, acroterias have also embellished roofs of Pompeii.
