The history of consoles goes back to the antiquity and were used as semi-circular tables attached to the wall. They served as a stylish storage surface for decorative objects such as vases, sculptures and candlesticks. During the Baroque and Rococo periods, consoles experienced their greatest popularity. They were lavishly decorated with carvings, inlay work and gilded ornaments to reflect the sophisticated taste of the time. Furniture consoles were status symbols and testified to wealth and refined art appreciation of their owners.

The console we present is made of birch. In northern Germany, the use of birch wood for furniture has a long tradition. Birch is known for its light color, delicate grain and durability, which makes it a popular material for furniture making.
