Der Pointillismus ist eine Kunstbewegung, die in den späten 1880er Jahren aufkam. Diese Technik basiert auf dem Prinzip der optischen Mischung, bei dem Künstler kleine Farbpunkte verschiedener Farben direkt auf die Leinwand setzen, anstatt Farben auf der Palette zu mischen. Die Farben sollen sich erst auf dem Auge des Betrachters vermischen, um die gewünschten Effekte zu erzielen. Pierre de Belay übernahm diesen Ansatz für seine Treillismuswerke.

Pointillism is an art movement that emerged in the late 1880s. This technique is based on the principle of optical mixing, in which artists put small dots of different colors directly on the canvas, instead of mixing colors on the palette. The colors are meant to blend first on the viewer’s eye to achieve the desired effects. Pierre de Belay adopted this approach for his Treillism works.
