Der streng geometrisch durchkomponierte, ornamental wirkende Bildaufbau ist typisch für den Pointillismus.
Diese Technik basiert auf dem Prinzip der optischen Mischung, bei dem Künstler verschiedenfarbige Punkte direkt auf die Leinwand setzt, anstatt die Farbtöne auf der Palette zu mischen. Die Farben sollen sich erst auf dem Auge des Betrachters vermischen, um die gewünschten Effekte zu erzielen.
Pierre de Belay übernimmt den pointillistischen Ansatz für seine Treillismuswerke.

The strictly geometrically composed, ornamental structure is typical for Pointillism.
This technique is based on the principle of optical mixing, in which artists put small dots of different colors directly on the canvas, instead of mixing shades on the palette. The colors are meant to blend first in the viewer’s eye to achieve the desired effects. Pierre de Belay adopted this approach for his Treillism works.
